A beautiful obsession - Logan, buses & autism
A charming reminder that it's the simple things in life that bring ultimate joy. Step into the world of 7 year old Logan - a little boy who has autism and the most heart-warming and occasionally hilarious obsession with buses.
Chris Carpenter who is Logan's grandfather says;
“There are no big problems in life...just take things one step at a time and get over them.”
This is the conclusion I came to after witnessing my daughter Koa raise her autistic son Logan.
I'm incredibly proud of how she's handled the life-altering challenge of raising a child that has autism.
Koa had to embrace a very different kind of motherhood and throw out all the typical expectations a mother might have when Logan was first diagnosed with epilepsy and then later with autism.
We live in quite conservative times with a lot of pressure to conform.
Koa had to re-think her entire value system - something many people don't have the stomach for or the courage to ask; "What's normal in this day and age anyway?"
This generosity of spirit, self-acceptance and pragmatism has made her wise beyond her years and some of it has rubbed off on me! I think the parents of autistic children don't get acknowledged enough and I hope this video will create some awareness.
And I also hope the video will make you smile.
I've learnt something from Logan and his charming obsession with buses.
This is not unlike my own obsession with trains - I totally get it!
It's the simple delights in life that bring joy and he's a constant reminder of how true that is.
We get so caught up in so much activity that this is easily forgotten.
His kind of delight makes you thankful for being alive.
It's the simple things you've got to remember to appreciate.
